A fantastic Memorial Day weekend on Lake of The Woods filled with fish stories, boat rides, sunsets, laughs around camp, and quality time with great people.
Daniel and Ginny even made the trip across Turtle Portage in search of Lake Trout — just another reminder of how much adventure Lake of the Woods has to offer.
Summer is here… and the lake is calling.
The guys had a great day on the lake today.
Andrew and our Fishing Guide Drew took a group out, had a delicious shore lunch, and brought back some fish for the freezer.
Over the past few days, we’ve been sharing more recent fishing photos from our guests and guides around Saarela’s Moonlite Bay; and these pictures tell the story better than we ever could on our own.
One thing we notice looking through these galleries is
how unique every group’s trip becomes.
Some guests arrive focused entirely on trophy walleye fishing.
Others spend their days chasing northern pike or smallmouth bass around the islands and rocky shorelines.
Some families want a quiet week together where the kids can catch fish off the dock, explore the islands, and enjoy life away from the city.
That variety is exactly what makes this part of Lake of the Woods so special.
In these recent images, you’ll see us holding beautiful Lake of the Woods walleye during calm summer evenings. Families gathered around the dock after a successful day of fishing, and young anglers proudly showing off fish that may very well become lifelong memories.
A few of the photos also show something we think matters just as much as the fishing itself — the atmosphere around camp.

For many of our guests, that becomes the real reason they return year after year.
The fishing is what brings everybody together, but the experience quickly becomes about reconnecting with family and friends in a place where life feels a little simpler.
Several of the recent pictures feature our kids holding their first fish. Those moments are some of our favorites to see, year after year.
Our peaceful haven on Lake of the Woods offers an incredible opportunity for introducing kids and first-time anglers to fishing. There are many sheltered bays, productive fishing spots close to camp, and the opportunity to catch multiple species throughout the season.
We also receive many questions from guests planning their first island resort vacation in Northwestern Ontario:
“Will we still have modern comforts?”
“Is it too remote for families?”
“Can non-fishermen enjoy the trip too?”
These photos help answer those questions naturally.
Saarela’s Moonlite Bay offers the remote island experience people come north looking for, while still providing modern cabin conveniences like electricity, wifi, full kitchens, refrigeration, comfortable sleeping arrangements, and dependable dock access.
That balance matters for many families.
One group might spend the day out on the boat fishing for walleye. While others stay back at camp cooking, relaxing in the cabin, taking photos, swimming, or simply enjoying coffee overlooking the water.
The recent fishing photos also highlight the range of fishing available around camp depending on the season. Guests visiting during spring and summer often focus on walleye and bass, while late summer and fall bring excellent opportunities for larger northern pike, musky, perch, and crappie fishing throughout nearby island systems and reefs.
