How far ahead should we book a musky trip?

Book well ahead — often close to a year out — because the prime musky dates, especially the fall window, are the first to fill.

The groups that lock in early get the weeks they want; the groups that wait take what is left. How big should our group be, and how do we split boats?

Match your group size to a cabin and plan two to three anglers per boat, which keeps everyone fishing comfortably and casting freely.

Musky casting needs room, so crowding four anglers into one boat rarely fishes well. A larger crew can split across boats and even across cabins. Stay in one of five island cabins — Musky Manor, Bear’s Den, Beaver Lodge, Loon’s Nest, or Squirrel Lodge — sized from a small team to a full group.

How do we get there and onto the island?

Saarela’s is a boat-in lodge — your group drives to the mainland launch near Morson and is brought across to Little Raspberry Island.

International guests should travel with valid passports and check current border requirements before the trip. Confirm the exact launch point, parking, and crossing details with the lodge when you book.

What should each angler bring?

Each angler should bring a proper musky setup, a valid Ontario fishing license, weather layers, and release tools — the lodge supplies the island base and boat rentals.
